Three men, Jibrin Chindo, Suleiman
Hamza and Abdullahi Sule on Friday appeared before a Senior Magistrate’ Court
sitting at Karu in the FCT charged with alleged unlawful possession of Dane
guns.
They are facing a two-count charge
of joint act and unlawful possession of firearms.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Adams
Peter, told the court that one ASP. Goke Babajide and his team attached to the
Asokoro Division of the FCT Police Command caught the suspects while on duty at
the Gwarzo-Asokoro Road on Sept. 29.
Peter said that the policemen
intercepted the accused persons in a lorry on their way to Kano State and
stopped them.
“It was discovered that they were
carrying some guns along with other goods and passengers in the lorry.
During interrogation by the
policemen the accused persons admitted that they owned the guns and couldn’t
produce any license authorising them to be in possession of the guns.
The prosecutor added that they also
couldn’t give any satisfactory answer as to how they got the guns.
The offences contravene Sections 79
of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 27 Sub A of the Firearms Act.
Meanwhile, the accused persons
pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Ann
Akobi, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in
like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must
produce passport photographs and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Akobi adjourned the case till Oct.
22 for hearing. (NAN)
