Aformer National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, has said his political opponents whom he blamed for his recent court case, actually wanted him to be jailed.
Ogbulafor stated this yesterday in Umuahia while fielding questions from journalists after a reception in his honour by his kinsmen following his acquittal last week by an Abuja High Court, of all 17 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He was accused of corruption and embezzlement of about N170m while serving as Minister in the Presidency in 2001.
The ex-PDP chairman said his acquittal by the court was a vindication of his innocence, noting however, that he would not be deterred from serving.
He cautioned people in positions of public trust “to be careful in showing magnanimity because people change like chameleon.”
Ogbulafor explained that he was persecuted partly because of the sins of somebody he recommended for a job.
He said “At no time did I feel guilty or jittery of any negative outcome of the case because I know that as a Minister in the Presidency, I never awarded any contract.”
He thanked his kinsmen and all those who stood by him all through the years the matter lasted in court.
On the zoning of the Abia State governorship ticket to the Abia-South senatorial district by the state’s caucus of PDP, Ogbulafor said he was totally in support of the decision of the party.
