NDLF To Hold Rally In Support Of Chibok Girls

“While the government prays we all develop collective amnesia on this issue, Nigerians and friends of Nigeria should not keep quiet while these Chibok girls are left in the hands of perverts,” NDLF said. “It would be a betrayal of our humanity and the hope of these girls if we all keep mute and continue with business as usual while these girls are in imminent danger.”

The Nigeria Democratic Liberty Forum (NDLF) has announced a “Bring Back Our Girls Rally” to take place in New York on Saturday, October 11, at the official Nigeria Independence Day parade.

In a press statement signed by NDLF Executive Director Bukola Oreofe, the group observed that it is now nearly 200 days since the girls, who number over 200, were kidnapped from their sleep in school in Chibok, Borno State, by the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Since the unfortunate incident, the statement said, the Nigerian government has displayed gross dereliction of duty and failed to offer hope for the eventual return of girls.

“To date, the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has not considered it appropriate to visit Chibok to communicate to the people of this town the efforts of the government and show compassion to the distraught parents and the entire community yet we witnessed the appalling speed he flew to Lagos to "express his condolence and that of the federal government" after the collapse of a private church even when the cause of collapse is yet to be determined which could be as a result of breach in building code.”

NDLF also expressed shock at the ease with which Boko Haram’s thirsty criminals have continued to overrun towns and villages perpetrating horrendous massacres and destruction wherever they go.

“Aware of the lack of capacity on the part of the government to engage them in spite of the vast annual defence budget the BH group has mocked the mediocre efforts by the Nigerian government for the rescue of these girls.
