Indigenes of communities in Ikorodu area of Lagos State have said they deserve to produce the next governor of the state.
A community leader, Chief Babatunde Benson (SAN), has alleged that there was a deliberate government policy to sideline and marginalises Ikorodu.
Benson spoke at a rally tagged ‘Ikorodu Division for Governor’ organised to canvass support for an Ikorodu man to be the next Lagos governor.
He said, “The journey to this point began in 2007 when we presented seven aspirants that year, but sadly, we were told it was not yet our turn. Sadder still, as we speak, the Ikorodu division has no commissioner. What could be more insulting; we have just an SA to the Governor on Education the person of Otunba Fatai Olukoga; whom we were told got his slot from Lagos.”
The rally attracted Ikorodu indigenes across age brackets and professional callings numbering over 5,000 who trooped out to campaign against their alleged marginalisation in political appointments in the state.
