The Lagos State Government has commenced a week-long training programme for auditors within its employ on fraud detection and forensic accounting procedure.
The training programme, which was declared opened by the State Auditor-General, Mrs. Helen Deile, in Lekki, was designed to enhance accountability, integrity and transparency in the auditing system of the state.
She described the training as timely, coming when fraudulent act was at an alarming rate all over the world, adding that there was a need to check this abnormal trend.
Deile said the training was organised in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to build the capacity of the auditors in the State Auditor General’s office as regards the trends in the accounting and auditing profession.
Expressing the hope that the training would make participants better officers in their respective work schedule, she thanked the Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, for granting approval for the training.
The Deputy Registrar, Technical Services, ICAN, Mr. Abel Aig Asein, also commended the state government for being the first state in the federation to embrace the Forensic Accounting Training Programme.
