‘PDP leadership should disqualify Wike’

Chief Nyesom Wike

A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Mr. Atamuno Atamuno, has called on the national leadership of the party to prevent a former Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, from participating in the party primaries or contesting for the governorship of the state.

Atamuno said there would be protest votes if the party allowed Wike to contest, noting that the PDP was not short of capable candidates for the governorship election.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, the PDP chieftain, accused Wike of masterminding the crisis in Rivers State chapter of the party, for selfish gains.

But in his reaction, the Media Aide to Wike, Simeon Nwakaudu said, “ The Rivers State PDP governorship aspirant, Nyesom Wike, is primed to win the governorship primary as the grassroots politician who built the party after Amaechi and people like Atamuno attempted to destroy the party.”

According to Atamuno, the former Education minister thwarted several efforts by prominent Rivers State indigenes to settle the rift between President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.

“Wike was in a position to reconcile the first family and Governor Amaechi, but he never did that, instead he made a pretence of attacking the governor on behalf of the first family. Instead of making peace, he puts fire, he was putting petrol where fire was burning,” Atamuno stated.

The PDP aspirant who described himself as “a philosopher king” contended that it was the turn of the riverine areas to produce the next governor of Rivers State, insisting that “it is the time of the Ijaws to rule, it is non-negotiable.”
