The current challenges being faced by the country notwithstanding, former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has expressed optimism of a bright future for the country at 54.
And for Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Fred Agbedi, Nigeria is gradually maturing after gaining Independence 54 years ago.
Globacom, Nigeria’s second largest telecommunications operator has sent felicitations to the people and government of Nigeria on the occasion of the 54th Independence anniversary.
Alao-Akala, who praised President Goodluck Jonathan on what he called ‘his giant strides’ as the nation celebrates 54 years of nationhood, spoke through his media aide, Abraham Ojo.
In the Independence message signed by Ojo and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the former governor said Jonathan’s administration had recorded tremendous feats, which were enough to guarantee the nation’s glorious future.
“A glorious future awaits our dear nation if we are not weary and do not allow what we are passing through to overwhelm us, a nation where life will be better for all and sundry.
Agbedi said that in spite of the challenges of insecurity, issues of development and intermittent social tension, the country has continued to move forward as one indivisible nation.
Globacom said in a statement in Lagos that the occasion is worthy of celebration, considering the challenges Nigeria has surmounted in the past 54 years and yet remained strong and indivisible.
“We acknowledge that we may yet have challenges as a nation, but we should not allow this to overwhelm us. Instead, we need to look at the achievements we have recorded in the past 54 years. That will serve as positive reinforcement of our resolve to march on till we get to our desired destination,” Globacom said.
