The United States (U.S.) President, Barack Obama, has congratulated Nigeria on the 54th Anniversary of her Independence.
This is just as the Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda, has asserted that Nigeria has witnessed substantial development since 1960 to warrant celebrating 54 years of Independence as a country.
The U.S. President in a statement entitled, “President Barack Obama’s National Day Message for Nigeria” made available to Daily Independent on Tuesday by the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, said his country looks forward to strengthening relationship with Nigeria in the coming year, especially in promoting good governance and combating terrorism.
“As Nigeria marks its 54th anniversary of Independence on October 1, the American people join me in wishing the people of Nigeria a memorable celebration filled with joy and increased national unity.
“Nigeria continues to play a key leadership role in Africa and at the United Nations in promoting regional peace and stability.
“As Nigerians observe this special day, we wish you a more peaceful and prosperous year,” Obama stated.
Governor Yuguda on his part spoke to journalists at the State House, Abuja, after he emerged from a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, accompanied by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Mohammed.
He stressed that Nigeria has actually taken bold strides forward in politics, democracy, economy, transportation, communications and education which showed that the country and administration were moving on the right path.
“We can say we are on the right track and we believe that the stage has been set for the country to be a developed country,” he stated.
