The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed shock over the demise of a journalism icon, Remi Oyo.
In a statement issued in Ikeja by the chairman, Deji Elumoye, and
secretary, Abimbola Oyetunde, the council commiserated with the Oyo
family, members of the pen profession and Nigerians in general over the
sudden death of Oyo, a journalist par excellence.
The NUJ described the death of Oyo as a great loss to the media and the nation.
“Mrs. Oyo, who was a leading light in the profession, would be
forever remembered for her role in the development of journalism, as she
was a role model to many practitioners,” the council said.
The NUJ said, Oyo, an accomplished journalist and former president of
the Nigerian Guild of Editors, would also be remembered for her concern
about the welfare of journalists and other staff working with the News
Agency of Nigeria, during her stint as NAN’s chief executive officer,
from 2007 to 2013.
According to the statement, a condolence register has been opened at
the Ladi Lawal Press Centre Secretariat of the NUJ in Ikeja for Oyo.
