Some governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State have called on the leadership of the party to suspend the scheduled indirect delegate primaries scheduled for December 4, optingt for a direct primary.
The APC governorship aspirants are Dr. Leke Pitan, Dr. Femi Hamzat, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Dr. Tola Kasali, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab and Mr. Olasupo Shasore.
The aspirants, in a communiqué issued on Tuesday, said the indirect primaries could lead to agitation, tension and litigation and may deprive the party from presenting a valid candidate for the general election in February 2015.
The communiqué reads, “Our party leadership should immediately review the scheduled indirect primaries scheduled to commence on December 2, 2014 and particularly the one scheduled for December 4, 2014 with a view to suspending it. A special consideration to conduct direct primaries rather than the indirect delegate-based primaries should be noted. We need to be gravely concerned about the recently released guidelines for the upcoming APC primaries and the legality of the indirect primaries as it relates to the INEC regulations 2014, the Electoral Act 2010 and the constitution of our party.
“We believe that both direct primaries and consensus building can be concluded within the INEC timetable. The party should commence consensus building exercise amongst all aspirants in order to effect a smooth affirmation of candidates.”
